2008 - The Year in Review

Highlights:

  • Established williamjmedia LLC as a licensed business in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Signed up to audit IMD412 Interactive Telecommunications to gain practical knowledge of Flash (course begins in January, 2009)
  • Completed a self-guided study of Flash by completing the exercises in "Adobe Flash CS3 Classroom in a Book"
  • Became founding Faculty Advisor to the Dynamic Multimedia Developers student organization (name changed to Student Web Developers in Fall 2008)
  • Named Media Coordinator and Media Representative for the Pittsburgh affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
    • Establish media contacts and practice public relations with local media regarding Network activities
  • Continued to serve as Faculty Advisor to the Improv Comedy Club at AIP
  • Participated in numerous curriculum change discussions regarding a course revision of FND132C Fundamentals of the Internet to streamline the course for the Fundamentals department (both at AIP and AIP Online Division)
  • Supported the Foundations department in an advisory role on Content Alert items for FND132C
  • Consistently announces Flash seminars and Adobe MFUG Pittsburgh meetings via the SWD organization
  • Explored partnerships with Pittsburgh organizations including the following actions:
    • Recommended student project work to the Heinz History Center
    • Established a relationship with Industry Weapon and invited their organization to join the WDIM PAC
    • Participated in networking activities with Buzzhoney

August, 2008

  • Coordinated numerous activities related to the Pick Up the Pace for Pancreatic Cancer 5K Walk at North Park, Pittsburgh
    • The event raised over $100,000 to further pancreatic cancer research and support programs
  • Established media contacts for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
  • KDKA and WPXI television appearances for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
  • Attended a lecture at the Adat Shalom Temple, Fox Chapel, PA, given by Jeffrey Zaslow, co-author of "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch
  • Attended a webinar presented by SAS titled, "Mastering the Four Essential Elements of Conversational Marketing: Listen, Relate, Create, Aggregate"

July, 2008

  • Conducted the Friday Summer Studio sessions with an introduction to Flash
